A brawl involving some 150 -200 Muslims broke out on Saturday night in Oxie in Malmö leaving three men in hospital and two men arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.

One of the men remained in hospital overnight.

"He is probably not seriously injured," according to Hans Nilsson at Skåne police.

According to police the punch up concerned a feud between two families, according to a report in the local Sydsvenskan daily.

Knives, pieces of wood and various other weapons were used during the brawl which broke out shortly before 8pm on Saturday.

According to witnesses around 20 people gathered at first.

"A car arrived and stopped on the square. The people in the car jumped out, opened the boot and took out knives and some pallets.They then attacked the other group with the items," the witness told the newspaper.

According to police the word spread fast and up to 200 people may have ultimately become involved in the brawl.

Three men were taken to hospital for treatment on their injuries.

The accident and emergency unit at Malmö University Hospital was cordoned off for a time during the night to prevent the fight from continuing inside the hospital.

A large number of people gathered outside the hospital late on Saturday night, according to a report in the Dagens Nyheter daily.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault but the investigation could later be classified as attempted murder, according to Hans Nilsson.
